Managua, Nicaragua - 2015

The project is locating in the historic center of the city of Managua, that after the earthquake of 1972, which left 19,320 dead and more than 20,000 injured, the capital was left in ruins, even the decision was made to surround the historic center already that the epicenter of the earthquake was in the same. From that moment on, a fear of building tall buildings was created, and the entire area of old Managua was abandoned, giving only place to public buildings.

This project proposes a reactivation of the area by generating buildings of mixed use in height, which can be duplicated in different inactive areas of the city.

The uses of the project are based on using the first floor for parking, service and certain shops, the second floor for shops and the upper floors of apartments. The entire complex is connected by an elevated bridge that is located on the second level which is accessed by ramps in each block that it crosses, and ends in an existing park. The concept of the elevated bridge starts from creating a space of free pedestrian circulation.

The project offers a new proposal for multi-family housing buildings, this is based on using the first floor for parking, the second for commerce and the upper floors of apartments. The whole complex is connected by an elevated bridge on the second level that allows free and uninterrupted circulation, ending in a park. In the design proposal it was tried to be the lightest and to follow all the strategies used in tropical architecture.
